REGIONS OF ITALY

   Despite the fact that Italy is a relatively small country, the regions to which it is divided have an identity and in some cases differ more than other independent states.

   For example, part of Trentino-Alto Adige, which borders Austria, is known in Russia as South Tyrol. Tyrolese are very distinctive people. They respect traditions, use many German words in their language and love an apple strudel. That is, they are more related to the German-speaking peoples living to the north.

   Milan (Lombardy) and Turin (Piedmont) are the capitals of Italian industry. Remember where the Zhiguli car brand comes from? Tuscany is famous for its wines and olive oil. Lazio is the capital region, a paradise for archaeologists. Venice is known so much that no comments are needed. And of course, all of Italy is a country of tourism and agriculture. What is really small in Italy, so it's minerals. But this is in a certain sense and better - fewer mines and processing plants, more space for vineyards and wineries.
